LegalWise Match For A Day 2008 a huge success!

When Ambassadors in Sport (AIS) decided to take on this challenge, there were many who were surprised at the crazy nature of the event; however at 2pm on the 4th of April, South Africa’s first 24 hour marathon kicked off at the Wanderers rugby club with an Ambassadors team taking on technical sponsor Hummel. This game set the tone for a very competitive 24 hours of soccer all played in a fantastic spirit and party atmosphere.

Throughout the day (and night!) Lee Sharpe’s AIS team included ex-Bafana legends Lucas Radebe, Phil Masinga, Mark Fish & Mark Williams, plus former Nigerian internationals Sam Pam & Idah Peterside & current Banyana players Simphiew Dludlu and Keneilwe Mathibela. From the world of showbiz, Kevin Fine also made a brief cameo performance before being struck down with injury. Come 1pm on the Saturday afternoon the AIS squad was still going strong and managed to complete the challenge successfully. Over the course of the 24 hours AIS only lost twice which was quite an achievement as many players had little or no sleep!

The main goal however was to raise money for the three AIS projects & create awareness. Thankfully, with many generous sponsors involved including LegalWise, Basil Read, ABSA, Big Save, Red Bull & Hummel, and of course the many teams that entered, the final total is expected to be over R.130,000.

Ambassadors in Sport would like to thank everyone who was involved for their support and generosity and look forward to seeing everyone next year!

Ambassadors in Sport are proud to announce that ABSA bank will be sponsoring the coaching clinic and Supersport are the broadcast partner for the event. We are thrilled that two such prestigious companies are giving their support to the event and are certain that their involvement will add great value. Look out on Supersport Blitz for the promotional footage that was taken in Soweto on Friday afternoon at the LegalWise Match for a Day press conference.

Momentum for the LegalWise Match for a Day soccer marathon continues to build. Lee Sharpe has arrived in South Africa and will be involved in a number of build up events over the next week. South African superstar players Mark Fish and Phil Masinga have both confirmed their participation on Lee Sharpe’s team.

Three unique items have been donated to AIS for the auction to be held at the Cocktail Function at the Wanderers Hotel on Saturday 5th April. A signed bat by the South African national cricket team; a signed copy of Nelson Mandela’s Long Walk to Freedom; and Real Madrid have donated a shirt signed by footballing megastar “Raul”. We trust that all attendees will come with cheque books in hand ready for a bidding war!

Following the highly successful Match for a Day fundraising events in the UK and the US, Ambassadors in Sport is pleased to announce the launch of their first 24 hour soccer marathon at the Wanderers rugby club on the 4th & 5th of April.

AIS have again teamed up with former Manchester United & England soccer star Lee Sharpe, Interactive Sport, Hummel & Kick off Magazine to host not just a 24 hour soccer marathon, but also soccer coaching clinics & a prestigious cocktail party at the Wanderers club.
